AEI B727-200 Cargo Conversion STC

Detailed Typical Maximum Weight Limits

AEI B727-100/-200 STC SA1797SO & SA1798SO

Aeronautical Engineers B727-200 passenger to freighter conversion is the leading B727-200 conversion program, the first aircraft converted was 1994, and since over 150 aircraft have been modified.  After the modification the aircraft can carry twelve (12) 88”x125” ULD containers or optionally twelve (12) 88”x108” ULD containers and a maximum 60,000 lbs.

Recently the cargo conversion has been upgraded to include vertical side restraints, modified floor beam attachments in the cargo door area and new “super” pallet locks, these upgrades comply with AD98-26-19.  Also a new composite 9G barrier is being installed to allow the aircraft to carry 60,000 lbs in the main cargo compartment.

Cargo Door  9G Barrier   Cargo Floor Modification    Class "E" Cargo Compartment

Cargo Door

  • 86" high by 140"and is installed on the left-hand side of the aircraft between F.S. 510 and F.S. 650.

  • Door is hinged at the top and is secured in the closed position by seven latches and a fail safe collective locking mechanism which is interlocked with the vent door.

  • Door is opened from the inside of the aircraft by an independent hydraulic system. The standard hydraulic system utilizes a 28VDC hydraulic pump and as a back a manual hand pump

  • Door is constructed to withstand winds of 45 knots in the fully open loading position.

  • Cargo loading lights are incorporated into the cargo door to provide lighting of the cargo loading area.

  • A "door open" warning system with a indicator light installed in the cockpit.

Cargo Floor Modification

  • Cargo floor is capable of supporting up to 140 pounds per square foot.

  • Cargo floor is equipped with longitudinal cargo tie-down tracks to accommodate a roller loading system.

  • Roller system including roller trays, pallet locks, end stops and vertical side restraints are provided

  • Ball mat is installed in the area adjacent to the cargo door

Class "E" Cargo Compartment

  • Fire resistent cargo liner (.060 basic thickness) is installed throughout the main cargo compartment.  Longitudinal channels are attached to the aircraft structure to which the cargo liner is secured

  • Air duct is modified to provide cargo compartment air control and shutoff.

  • Smoke detection system is installed to qualify the cabin area as a Class "E" cargo compartment.  The system has an indicator panel in the cockpit to warn of a cabin fire.

  • Cargo compartment lighting is provided in the center overhead.  Lights are protected with a grill.

9G Barrier (Licensed from Ventura Aerospace)

  • 9G barrier allows a 60,000 lb main deck payload

  • Single piece composite construction with a sliding cargo compartment access door.

  • Barrier also is a smoke barrier as required for a Class E cargo compartment.

Miscellaneous Items

  • Secondary main landing gear down-lock indicator is provided.

  • Cabin windows are replaced with fabricated window plugs

  • Fold down lower jamb protector installed in the cargo door area to protect locking mechanism during loading

  • Illustrated parts catalogue, cargo loading manual, maintenance manual, flight manual supplement, and weight and balance supplement
